Carpet Stones, Setts & Cobblestones
What are carpet stones?
Carpet stones are a great alternative to paving slabs that offer an authentic cobblestone aesthetic that is easy to lay.
While they might look like traditional cobbles, carpet stones are actually attached to a single plastic mat. This means you don’t have to worry about laying individual stones – you just cut the mat to fit your space.
What are stone setts?
In some parts of the country known as a “Belgian block”, paving setts are small blocks of quarried stone which add uniformity to outdoor areas.
Paving setts are specially designed with durable materials to suit heavy-duty spaces. They also have an attractive finish which makes them perfect for feature areas, like footpaths and patios.
What can stone setts be used for?
Stone setts are deceptively robust and last for the long-haul. This means they are extremely versatile and suited to spaces including patios, garden paths, edging and driveways.
What is the difference between cobbles, setts, and carpet stones?
While cobblestones and setts look similar, they’re not quite the same. The main difference is the shape. Paving setts are cut into uniform square sizes while cobbles keep their natural rounded shape. As a result, setts have a finish that complements modern spaces. Cobbles, on the other hand, are more traditional.
Carpet stones are fitted to a mat, while cobblestone pavers and setts are laid in individual blocks. The latter takes longer to install, but it also makes the pavers more versatile, giving homeowners different patterns, colours, and shapes to choose from.
Can you use carpet stones or setts on a driveway?
Yes, both carpet stones and paving setts, along with block paving, are suitable for all types of paving, including driveways.
