What styles of garden walling bricks are there?

Whether your garden is traditional or contemporary, finding the perfect decorative wall bricks is sure to be the finishing touch it needs.

Looking to introduce a rustic theme to your outdoor space? Try Bradstone’s Old Town Garden Walling. Available in Weathered Limestone and Grey-Green, this garden walling recreates the appearance of reclaimed Yorkstone walling.

If you have more modern tastes, we recommend our Natural Stone Walling Slips collection. Available in either slate or sandstone, you can attach these slips to a flat concrete wall to create a contemporary aesthetic. All you then need is Bradbond Walling Adhesive to transform your garden into your very own silent sanctuary.

Can I use garden walling bricks to build retaining walls?

Our products are best used as decorative garden walling to face a concrete block structure. This means you can build a retaining wall that is structurally sound and has a decorative finish.

Generally, if you plan to build a retaining wall higher than 600mm, we advise that you speak to an expert. This will ensure that the build is long-lasting and structurally sound.

What garden features can I create using garden wall blocks?

You’ll love our garden walling for much more than its attractive finish. As one of our most versatile products, garden wall bricks can be used for everything from planters and raised beds to ponds and step risers. Want to get really creative with our garden wall blocks? Try building yourself a barbecue area for the sunny summer months.

To get started with your DIY project, try our Bradstone Madoc Walling. Thanks to their unique Z-shaped blocks, they’re one of the easiest garden walling options to lay. They can also be dry laid up to three blocks high. For taller walls, we recommend pairing this product with Bradstone Walling Adhesive.

Those in search of a professional curved wall should look no further than our Pitched Walling and Countryside Walling ranges. Designed with predominantly double-sided bricks, these look every inch like an authentic stone wall.

How do I lay garden wall bricks?

Even if you’re just building a small raised bed, a solid foundation is essential for any type of wall. Typically, this foundation should be between 1/4 and 1/3 of the wall’s height – and two or three times its width.

Once the foundation is in place, you need to establish a building line from one end to the other. You should use a spirit level to check that your foundation is perfectly level. Then you can begin to lay the garden wall bricks – one course at a time – using a mortar mix that is four parts building sand and one part cement. All the while, you need to fill in vertical joints between the garden wall bricks.

For a finishing touch to your outdoor masterpiece, consider topping with a matching coping stone. Not only will this prevent rainfall from penetrating the wall, but it also offers an attractive finish to open-faced structures. It’s the cherry on the cake.
